Ananse and the German organisation for blind people “Deutsches Blindenhilfswerk (DBHW)“ plan to build a vocational training centre in Kilifi. It is intended to be an apprenticeship opportunity for blind and partially sighted teenagers who neither attend secondary school nor graduate from college or university.
There will be four types of apprenticeship: bead work, bakery, chicken farming and computing.
We work closely with teaching staff, employees from education authority and administration and also persons concerned. They had already been a committee in Kilifi in 2019 when the project idea developed. Its members meet regularly.
In spite of some difficulties due to the COVID-19 crisis, we have managed to submit the application for funding to the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). We hope for an approval in order to begin in November of this year. The project period will be two years. Ananse will contribute to the costs with €30,000.
